Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 September 2026

This policy describes what Televo collects, why, and what control you have. It is written to match what the app actually does — every item below corresponds to real behaviour in the code.

What we collect

Account information. Your email address (used to sign in), a username, and a display name. Optionally a profile photo and a short bio, if you add them.

Phone number. Required when you create an account. It is used for one purpose: letting people who already have your number in their address book find you on Televo. Your number is never shown to other users and cannot be read in bulk — matching happens by comparing cryptographic hashes, so another user only ever confirms a number they already had. You can update or remove it afterward in Settings — removing it only stops future contact matching; it does not delete your account.

Messages and media. The messages, photos and files you send are stored so they can be delivered and so you can see your history. In a Secret Chat, message contents are encrypted on your device before they are sent and can only be read by you and the person you're talking to — we cannot read them.

Contacts (optional). If you use "Find friends" and grant permission, the app reads phone numbers from your address book on your device, converts them to irreversible hashes, and sends only those hashes to check for matches. Your contact list itself is never uploaded or stored.

Usage and technical data. When you were last active (if you leave "Last Seen" enabled), and a push notification token for your device so we can deliver notifications.

What we do NOT do

Calls

Voice and video calls connect directly between devices where possible, and their media is encrypted in transit (DTLS-SRTP). Call contents are not recorded or stored. We do store a call record (who, when, duration, whether it was answered) so you can see your call history.

Encryption

Regular chats are encrypted in transit and stored encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Secret Chats add end-to-end encryption: the encryption keys never leave your device, and message contents are unreadable to us and to our hosting provider. You can verify a Secret Chat has not been intercepted by comparing safety numbers with the other person (chat menu → Verify encryption).

Your control over your data

Data retention

Your data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is deleted along with it.

Children

Televo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
